Monday, April 20th, 2009

If your carpet is burned or damaged, or you have permanent stain which can not be cleaned, you can patch it.

What you need for carpet patching:

1. any round thing which is a little bit bigger than your stain.

2. Sharp knife.

3. a piece of thermal carpet tape

4. a white cotton towel

5. steam iron, hammer, hair comb

How to do it:

1. Use the round thing to cover your stain, then press firmly and cut the carpet along the edge of the round stuff. Make sure you completely cut through the carpet. Cut one more from closet carpet by the same way, make sure they are from the same kind of carpet

2. Put the carpet tapes under both holes. Put the nice patch on the first hole, put the stained patch on the second hole in the closet.

3. Make your cotton towel wet, and spread it over the first carpet patch, Set the iron to the hottest, then heat the towel on the hole for about 15 seconds, press firmly. Then use a hammer to hit the patch along the seaming lightly. After 10 min, pull the patch by your fingers gently, make sure the tape has glued the patch. If not, heat it again a little bit longer. Put the stained patch on the closet hole, and patch it in the same way.

4. Use a comb to mix the patch fibre with the surrounding carpet fibre to hide the seaming edge

MAKE SURE NOT TO BURN YOUR CARPET.

If you do not want to take the hassle, you can call us, we normally charge $20 for carpet patching.

Tools you need:

Rent a carpet steam cleaning machine from local super market (about $30)

A sprayer (at least 1 gallon)

Push broom

Low foam carpet shampoo for steam cleaning machine (also called carpet extraction machine) ($6 to $20)

Very hot water, be cautious

Vacuum cleaner

Then do the following:

Vacuum your carpet

Spray shampoo solution on carpet, focus on spot, then broom your carpet, let it stay for 5 min.

Steam clean your carpet with fresh hottest water. Better without shampoo in it. Carpet will be easy dirty again if shampoo residue is left on carpet

Turn on your ceiling fan to dry carpet. Do not put any furniture back before the carpet is dry

Good luck.

To have a high quality job, remember that you must pretreat carpet and broom it; fill machine with the hottest water. Second don’t be fooled by the machine warning: “only their brand shampoo works well”. The marketer want earn big money from selling you their expensive shampoo. You can use most of other brand cheap low foam shampoo. Test in small area before use

If you don’t want to take the hassle, then call us. Our professional cleaning price is even lower for small to medium size job than DIY
