Remove small tough stain on carpet with scissors

December 9th, 2009

Situation: tiny little tough stain on carpet that you can not take off by detergents in your hand, such as gum, cigarette burn, bleached spot…

Tool: scissors, regular white latex glue.

How: if the stain is tiny and on the surface of carpet, just cut it, make sure only cut the top of fibre, otherwise the cutting will leave a dimple  on carpet. If the spot is very deep, cut all the fibre there,  get clean fibre from the corner of the same carpet. squeeze a drop of glue on the bottom of carpet, plant the clean fibre there.

Can I put furniture back shortly after carpet cleaning?

August 15th, 2009

Better not to put furniture back when the carpet is still wet, otherwise  paint on the furniture leg will leave stains on carpet, or iron furniture leg will leave rusty stain on carpet, or mold may grow on the carpet which is covered by the legs.

If you really want to put your furniture back, you better wrap the legs with aluminum foil or plastic. Move the furniture a lit bit away from the four spots to let it dry after 5 or 6 house.

How long does it take for the carpet to dry after steam cleaning

July 22nd, 2009

It often takes about 6 hours to dry after professional  carpet steam cleaning. If you pay extra, carpet cleaner even can dry your carpet in 1 hour with their special fan.

If you clean your carpet by DIY, wet vacuum your carpet with the carpet steam extractor one more time after each cleaning stroke. This will dramatically reduce the drying time. Plus turn on all your fans and open all room doors.

Dallas Carpet Cleaning Pricing

July 7th, 2009

Carpet cleaning prices in Dallas are quite different even for the same kind of services.

The very basic carpet cleaning is carpet cleaing only, no furniture moving, no speical stain removal, no Scotch guard teflon protector. The prices are from $10 to $30 per room.

If furniture moving is included, the price will be over $20 a room. In fact, the carpet under furniture is often very clean, there is  only only some ” floating” dust  on the surface, a vacuum cleaner can easilly clean it. If this part of carpet is cleaned  and furniture is place back shortly, the carpet  will not  dry,  mold and  furniture stain will grow there.

Scotch Guard (Teflon protector) can form a prptection coating on the surface of carpet. Liquid food can not penetrate into the carpet within short time, so we can have enough time to clean it. But long time carpet usage and long time response to liquid food on the carpet will  make the Scotch Guard dysfunction. The price for Scotch Guard is normally starts from $ 0.1/sf.

Pet odor is a big problem not only to customers, but also all carpet cleaners. There are basically 3 ways to “take” it out:

Cover up: fragrance chemicals are sprayed to cover the smell, when the fragrance is gone, the smell will still be there.
Enzyme: Use one biological enzyme to eat up the pet urine. It works, but urine is also absorbed by cement,  wooden floor and dry walls. Enzyme can not soak all these areas
Chemicals: Use chemical to react with the urine. Same  problem is existed as before.
The price for deodoring starts from o to hefty price.

Stain removal: carpet cleaner can remove most common stains, the price is normally from several dollar to $20 to $30 per stain.

Good luck for your carpet cleaner hunting.

How to maintain your carpet clean

May 17th, 2009

There is no doubt that carpet in your home is often above $1000. Maintaining carpet clean not only saves your money, but also makes you feel happy and healthy.

1. Vacuum once a week. 80 to 90% of soil by weight on carpet can be vacuumed by regular vacuum machine. Carpet vacuuming can take abrasive sand out and extend carpet life greatly. But too frequent vacuuming will quickly wear your carpet out. A customer vacuumed her carpet every day, her 3 year old carpet is almost bald.  Once a week is appropriate for most homes.

2. Put a runner in front of carpet. A runner can take more than 60% of shoe soil.

3. Do not wear outside shoes inside.

4. Testing your slippers if you wear it inside. Some of the sole of slippers leave black mark on carpet. You can test if it is by scratching the sole on cement floor.

5. Wearing socks is the best for carpet. Baring feet are not as good as wearing socks because the feet will leave body grease on carpet. Socks can clean the carpet.

6. Drying any liquid stain with cotton towel as soon as possible.

7. Testing in small area first before pouring liquid detergent over stain. Liquid detergent may expand your stain.

8. Stretching carpet if it is loose. Loose carpet will deteriorate very quickly.

9. Less food or no food over carpet.

10. Repair broken carpet as soon as possible.

11. Replace old pad if you want to replace the carpet over it. New pad will extend the life of your new carpet

12. Take the rubber bottom mat off your carpet as soon as you finish your showering. The rubber bottom does prevent water from penetrating into the carpet, but also block the humidity vaporizing from the ground to the air. Long time use of this kind of mat will leave mold stain on carpet.

13. Take action when the carpet is flooded. The flooded area is normally twice as big as you imagined. More than 70% of the water is in the padding, only less than 30% of the water is in the carpet. Regular sucking from the top of carpet can only take out less than 30% of all the water. A professional cleaner should be called when carpet is flooded.

14 Clean the surrounding hard floor every day will greatly reduce the soil brought to carpet.

15. Steam clean carpet once or twice a year
